The Effect of Scanning Strategy On Mechanical Properties and Delamination During Brake Caliper Manufacturing With Selective Laser Melting (SLM)

In the industry, additively manufactured components are becoming more prevalent. Rather than growth in production of ordinary non-structural by additive manufacturing, Additive manufacturing's increased safety-critical component drives this prevalence. Thus, manufacturing braking system part, a vital subsystem almost all vehicles, will help spread method. This study investigated delamination issue noticed during selective laser melting manufacture service brake caliper from 316L stainless steel. All process parameters were kept constant to investigate only scanning strategy effect on mechanical properties and delamination. On samples, density-porosity measurements, tensile hardness tests, macrostructure examinations using an optical microscope conducted. As consequence studies, chessboard exhibited superior over stripe strategy. The Chessboard method gave better results 6% for measuring yield stress 12% Brinell hardness. was not entirely eliminated strategy; however, it be reduced comparison Possible causes discussed with microhardness measurements examinations.
